Description

Chess Analysis: Reloaded by GM Daniel Gormally
Turn off your engines! Why chess analysis has declined, and how to reverse it!

Danny Gormally is a Chess Grandmaster stuck in a fugue state. He has forgotten how to analyse - blinded by the brilliance of chess engines, every time he gets stuck he turns on the machine. In this book he attempts to discover his love of analysis and the game of chess by attempting different methods of analysis and calculation.

He asks what separates the analysis methods of an amateur player with a Grandmaster, and further still what separates the very best players from super computers. It all culminates in the mind-bogglingly complex “Impossible quiz” where some of the most skilled players in chess are confronted by extremely complex positions. If that sounds off-putting it shouldn’t be - Gormally breaks down the material in a way that is comprehensible to any amateur player.

Improve your calculation, and a continuing view of life of a GM.

Good analysis of his and other people's games, and comparisons with his own efforts with software and other players. This all obvious from title. There is as much about life as a "journey man " GM and his psychological hangup's and how this effects the quality of his play. He wrote a book for Thinker's publishing which is more explicitly about this I think, which I don't have. His quality of play and analysis is way above a club player like me, but still not good enough for a very comfortable life style. This extreme competition happens in other fields like research/academia.
So in summary one part the major part is about the title of the book, and another a continuation of “Insanity, Passion and Addiction: A year inside the chess world.", or at least the diary enteries this book was based on.
