The Zagreb Ebonised Chess Pieces are a distinctive set - these pieces are inspired by a design that was extremely popular in Eastern Europe in the 1950's and 60's, and was the design used in the 1959 World Championship Candidates Tournament in Bled, Zagreb. This set's most noticeable feature is, perhaps, the contrasting coloured cross and ball finials on the King, Queen and Bishop pieces.
These distinct pieces are paired with our Superior Black Dyed Poplar and White Erable Chess Board. One of the finest wooden boards in our range, made with high quality Black Dyed Poplar and White Erable Maple veneers. The matte Black and lightly marbled White squares blend seamlessly well with Zagreb pieces for those who prefer a matching colour palette. Rechapados Ferrer chess boards are used in the world chess championships organised by FIDE, World Chess, European Chess and US Chess Federation.
