The Tech Mahindra Global Chess League will feature six teams composed of six players per team, (see team line-ups here), with each team consisting of one “iconic player”, at least two female players, and one U-21 player in each team (see team line-ups below).

The preliminary tournament (Game Days # 1-9) will be a double all-play-all, with the two teams with the most match-points qualifying to the final (being held on Saturday 12th October – Game Day # 10).

Awesome GCL2

It was such an amazing experience that I had as a chess fan to attend my first ever chess tournament, not only to see some of the greatest chess players ever live in action but also to play an Olympiad gold medalist myself in the fanzine. I was there for the whole day but it felt like I had just started my day. It was tiring yet energising. Thanks to all the organisers for such a fantastic event where each chess fan must have been left thrilled.

Great experience.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit, seeing the big names up close, catching a few selfies. The experience for people watching in person could be improved - the electronic boards are rather small and difficult to follow - six large screens along the back wall would have been much better. Also why all the fuss about spectators using phone cameras? From watching later days the atmosphere among spectators seemed to get better, but with all the emphasis on live streaming I think an opportunity to promote this as an event worth attending in person was missed. As well as better screens, there could have been e.g. headsets to listen to the commentary. It was still a brilliant day out though, special thanks to the people facilitating the autographs/photos.

Loved the event!

It was awesome to take my family, soak in the (tense!) atmosphere and observe how the best in the game play. Also, it was equally enjoyable seeing the camera and lights: The technical aspects to broadcasting a tournament, with Tania and David anchoring the pre- and post-game presentations. So happy such a wonderful live event is being staged in London, and am looking forward to attending even more days next year.

The chess tournament was an incredible experience! The atmosphere was electric, filled with excitement and intense focus. Watching the players' strategic moves unfold live was captivating, and the commentary provided insightful analysis, making it easy to follow along even for casual fans. The venue was well-organized, with comfortable seating and excellent visibility of the boards. The pacing of the matches kept the energy up throughout the event, and it was thrilling to witness the critical moments as they happened. Overall, a fantastic experience that highlighted the brilliance and complexity of competitive chess. Highly recommended!
